Athanassios FOKAS (UK)

Athanassios S. Fokas is Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of the University of Cambridge where he holds the Chair in Nonlinear Mathematical Science. His remarkably broad education in engineering, mathematics and medicine, combined with his exceptionally high analytical technique and deep intuition, allowed him to make fundamental contributions to both theory and applications. He is renowned in the area of nonlinear integrable equations, his "unified transform method" so called "the Fokas method", in biomedical imaging etc. He received the 2000 NAYLOR PRIZE for mathematics of the London Mathematical Society, in 2004 he was awarded the ARISTEION PRIZE of the Academy of Athens and in 2009 he was selected as a Guggenheim Fellow. Arieh ISERLES (UK)

Arieh Iserles is Professor in Numerical Analysis of Differential Equations at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of the University of Cambridge. His research interests lie in the areas of computational mathematics and in particular on highly oscillatory phenomena and their computation, numerical geometric integration, effective methods for the approximation of the matrix exponential, exponential integrators and asymptotic expansions for ordinary differential equations, isospectral flows and their features. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Society for Foundations of Computational Mathematics and Editor-in-Chief, Editor, Advisory Editor and member of the Editorial Board in many scientific journals. Zhong-Zhi BAI (P.R. CHINA)

Zhong-Zhi Bai is Professor of Computational Mathematics at the Institute of Computational Mathematics & Scientific/Engineering Computing of Academy of Mathematics and Systems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests lie in the areas of numerical linear and nonlinear algebras, parallel computations and applications, numerical optimization methods and theories, sparse matrix techniques and theories, constructions and analyses of linear and nonlinear preconditioners, numerical methods for differential-algebraic equations, numerical partial differential equations. Elias N. Houstis is Professor Emeritus at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of the University of Thessaly, Greece and at the Department of Computer Science of Purdue University, USA where he has been Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Computational Science & Engineering Program. He is a member of several research groups in USA and Japan and his current research interests are in the areas of portals, networking computing, enterprise systems, computational intelligence, computational finance, e-business, and e-learning. His research has been supported by the NSF, AFOSR, ARO, DARPA, DOE, ESPRIT, INTEL, IBM, AT&T, Kozo-Japan, Purdue University, Greek Research Foundation. Read more ...

Michael VRAHATIS (HELLAS)

Michael N. Vrahatis is Professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Patras, Greece. He is founder and director of the Computational Intelligence Laboratory. His work includes topological degree and fixed point theory, systems of nonlinear algebraic and transcendental equations, nonlinear dynamics and complexity, numerical and intelligent optimization, data mining and unsupervised clustering, intelligent cryptography, intelligent music, bio-inspired computing, biomedical informatics as well as computational and swarm intelligence. Dimitrios NOUTSOS (HELLAS)

Dimitrios Noutsos is Professor in Numerical Analysis at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Ioannina. His research interests lie in the area of Numerical Linear Algebra and in particular the solution of large linear systems by iterative methods, the preconditioned conjugate gradient methods for the solution of Toeplitz and multilevel Toeplitz systems and the nonnegative matrices and Perron Frobenius theory.
