6th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL ANALYSIS

NumAn 2014
RECENT APPROACHES TO NUMERICAL ANALYSIS:
THEORY, METHODS AND APPLICATIONS
September 2-5, 2014

In memory of Professor Emeritus
Theodore S. Papatheodorou

"T.S. Papatheodorou" Young Researcher Awards

Two young researcher awards, of 1.000 euros each, founded in the memory of T.S. Papatheodorou by the University of Patras (Research Committee 387/21.07.2014) and the Computer Technology Institute and Publications "Diophantus" (Board of Directors 48/26.6.2014), will be awared to the best research results presented at the conference by young researchers in the areas of

  • Numerical Analysis : Theory, Methods and Applications
  • High Performance Scientific Computing

Eligibility criteria. PhD candidates and Postdocs (up to 7 years after PhD commencement) are eligible to apply for the awards. The award candidates must themselves give a talk on their research results at the conference and submit a relevant at least 6-page scientific paper. They can use the already published proceedings extended abstract, or an updated version of it, or submit a new paper to the Award Committee by September 26, 2014.

Award Committee. The NumAn2014 Organizing Committee augmented by the invited speakers M. Vrahatis and D. Noutsos will serve as the T.S. Papatheodorou Award Committee.

Applicants have to fill in the application form and leave it with the NumAn2014 Secretariat before their presentation at the conference.

NumAn2014

We are organizing the 6th International Conference on Numerical Analysis "NumAn2014 - Recent Approaches to Numerical Analysis: Theory, Methods and Applications". The conference will take place at the old venetian harbour of Chania on the island of Crete, Greece, on September 2-5, 2014.

The themes of the conference are in the broad area of numerical analysis and applications, including:

  • numerical methods, algorithms and software
  • numerical and scientific computing
  • numerical methods and computational modelling in Science and Engineering
  • parallel and high-performance numerical computation

All areas of numerical analysis are considered, including:

  • numerical linear algebra
  • numerical solution of ordinary, partial and stochastic differential equations
  • numerical solution of integral equations
  • nonlinear and optimization problems

The aims of the conference are:

  • to bring together and bequeath scientific activities, directions and pursuits of scientists on subjects that pertain to the conference,
  • to foster an exchange of views and ideas,
  • to study the theoretical background required for methods, algorithms and techniques used in applications,
  • to search directions of theoretical results towards applications,
  • to highlight open problems and future directions of numerical analysis

Several Workshops will be organized to highlight current mathematical, numerical, computational and technological trends in areas of high scientific interest, including:

  • Mathematical Biology and Medicine
  • Environmental Science and Engineering
  • Multiphysics / Multidomain Problems

We invite interested researchers to submit one-page abstracts, for lecture or poster presentations, on topics pertaining to the themes of the conference and the workshops by Sunday, June 15, 2014 (final deadline). Abstracts have to be in LaTeX format, following the sample file sample.tex, and e-mailed to numan2014@amcl.tuc.gr.

See the important dates for the deadlines of the conference.

APNUM Special Issue:
(NEW!) Full papers presented at the Conference may be submitted for publication in a Special Issue of Applied Numerical Mathematics. Details for paper submission to this special issue are posted at the Special Issue page.
